The Royal Bank of Scotland series of Scotland in the World Currency contains 565 distinct entries.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) was founded on 31 May 1727 by royal charter. Its first office was on Edinburgh High Street. In its initial decades, this “New Bank” engaged in fierce competition with the “Old Bank,” the Bank of Scotland (BOS: B101). Each tried to instigate bankruptcy in the other by presenting for payment large quantities of its rival’s notes. In time, the rivalry dissipated and their combined strength contributed greatly to the strength of the Scottish banking system, until the crash of 2008.

“P” preceding a signature title stands for “pro,” meaning the signatory is acting on behalf of the actual official who holds that title.
