The Sino-Belgian Bank (BSB) was incorporated on 5 March 1902 with a capital of 1,000,000 francs to launch the Chinese operations of the Société Générale pour favoriser l’industrie nationale (French: General Company for the Promotion of National Industry; see Belgium B101). It opened its Shanghai branch in mid-June 1902, and shortly thereafter added branches in Beijing, Cairo, London, Paris, and Tianjin, and helped found the Banque du Congo Belge (French: Bank of the Belgian Congo; see Belgian Congo B201).
