1849 Cincinnati Mining & Trading 5 Dollar Gold MS K-1 Values

Details

The unique 1849 Cincinnati Mining & Trading Company $5 was first reported in 1914, and eventually made its way into the collection of Chicago beer baron, Virgil Brand, before being purchased by Josiah K. Lilly, whose heirs donated it to the Smithsonian Institution in 1968. It shows no signs of wear but is weakly struck with little detail on the eagle and shield.

Obverse: Native American facing left CINCINNATI MINING & TRADING COMPANY.

Reverse: Eagle bearing a shield, arrows, and laurel, CALIFORNIA FIVE DOLLARS, 1849.
