Details

George Washington died on December 14, 1799. These medals were coined early in 1800 to be worn at his Civic Funeral Procession held on February 22 in Boston.

Obverse: The obverse carries a uniformed bust of Washington encircled by the fitting inscription HE IS IN HIS GLORY, THE WORLD IN TEARS.

Reverse: The reverse displays a funeral urn with the inscribed initials GW.
