This popular short set comprises the 15 regular-issue business-strike coins issued from 1941 through the last year of the series in 1945, not including the 1945 Micro S variety. It is, in essence, a World War II type set and is popularly marketed both within the numismatic hobby as well as in mass marketing to non-collectors. While many advanced collectors pursue building 1941-1945 Mercury dime short sets, particularly such assemblages in which each of the coins is a Full Bands example, this run is often viewed as a gateway to building an even larger collection of Mercury dimes.
This coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper and has a current melt value of $4.33
Obverse: Winged Liberty, or Mercury (the Roman god of commerce), is depicted facing left with LIBERTY spelled around the periphery. IN GOD WE TRUST appears left of the neck and the date is positioned just below the bust around 5 o'clock. The designer's initials "AW" appear to the right of the neck.
Reverse: A large torch is centered vertically adorned with an axe head and olive branches. UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN * ONE DIME * is spelled out around the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears near the bottom rim left of the torch.
