Obverse Description

On the alpaca (German silver) center, the national coat of arms with the eagle facing left, its feathers resembling plates of armor. On the bronze-aluminum outer ring, the legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS above, with a half-wreath of oak and laurel below.

Reverse Description

At the center, a left-facing figure of the god Xiuhtecuhtli. Above the figure, FUEGO NUEVO (New Fire); to the right of the figure, $20 and the mintmark M; at lower right, XIUHTECUHTLI. Surrounding the center on the outer ring, a pattern of stylized sun-rays from the Aztec Calendar Stone. At the bottom of the ring, divided by the lowermost ray, AÑO / [date].
