The 1917-S Type 1 Quarter is slightly more scarce than its counterparts from Philadelphia and Denver. Better date in circulated grades but is not very difficult to locate until Mint State. Scarce as of MS65 with rarity increasing gradually into MS67 and finer.

Obverse Description

MacNeil's Liberty stands, breast exposed, with one hand holding an olive branch, the other bearing a shield. A ribbon connects the branch to the shield. The world LIBERTY appears across the top periphery and the date is centered at the bottom. 13 stars appear to the side of Liberty. Mint mark, if any, is positioned above the date to the left of Liberty.

Reverse Description

An eagle in full flight, facing right, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above the great raptor. Stars flank the left and right peripheries with the words QUARTER DOLLAR at the bottom.
