eBay, one of the world's largest marketplaces for unique and historic coins, today announced the expansion of Authenticity Guarantee in the U.S. to a new category: collectible coins.
It is unknown why this coin was struck as a proof, or specimen, striking at the Denver mint, but perhaps a few were struck to mark the last year of the Liberty design before the Saint Gaudens' design was implemented. There are 3 known examples with a special striking.
Obverse Description
Christian Gobrecht's portrait of Liberty is surrounded by 13 stars with the date centered at the bottom.
Reverse Description
