Arthur L. Friedberg has been actively involved in numismatics since the 1970’s. He is known especially for his expertise in paper money and world gold coins. The son of Robert Friedberg (1912-1963), Art’s published works include the recent the 23rd edition of Paper Money of the United States and the 10th edition of Gold Coins of the World. He and his brother, Ira, sold the rights to these and other publications to Whitman in 2024. He just completed work on a new edition of Whitman’s United States Paper Money and is currently working on an updated 16th edition of Modern World Coins, which is being expanded to cover the period 1850 to 1975.
In 2001, he was elected president of the International Association of Professional Numismatists, the first American ever named to the position. He is currently Senior Editor for Whitman Brands, working on various publications and special projects.
He is a graduate of The George Washington University with a major in history and holds an MBA from New York University.
He has been a member of the Professional Numismatists Guild since 1977.
