Rarities across the spectrum of American coinage are set to cross the auction block.
A suprisingly rare issue in proof. It is thought that many of the coins struck as proofs were melted or spent due to a massive recession. According to John Albanese all (or nearly all) of the known examples exhibit deep cameo surfaces.
Obverse Description
Christian Gobrecht's portrait of Liberty is surrounded by 13 stars with the date centered at the bottom.
Reverse Description
Shielded eagle with wings outstretched holding arrows and olive branches. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * TWENTY D. appear around the periphery. Mint mark, if any, appears below the eagle's tail, above the N in TWENTY.
