The United States utilized a two-cent coin for just ten years, from 1864 to 1873.
The Templeton Reid $5 is the first privately-minted half eagle of the United States. Seven examples are known, three of which are impounded in museum collections. Of the four pieces remaining in private hands, three grade XF/AU and one has been repaired.
